Family fun in Signapore

– This post was written by Megan Witkin –

Family trips are always great for making memories together but feeling frazzled can outweigh the fun quickly, especially with tots in tow. Traveling with children doesn’t have to be stressful, especially when there are so many things to do with kids in a family-friendly destination such as Singapore.

Singapore is tropical, colorful, and vibrant, with plenty of stimulating activities for children of all ages (and all budgets) to keep them occupied for hours. Fun activities with kids in Singapore:

1. Go for a thrill at Universal Studios

Topping our list of fun things to do in Singapore is Universal Studios. A spin-off of  the American theme park network, Universal Studios has made Singapore it’s home  since 2011.

The theme park features rides, games, and other attractions starring all of your favorite characters – from Transformers and Jurassic Park for older kids to Sesame Street and Shrek for the little ones.

With special discounts available for children of certain age groups, and family package deals, Universal Studios can fit into many budget brackets. Spend all day exploring the park where you’ll find thrills and spills throughout.

📍 How to get there: you can get to Universal Studios Singapore by car, public transport, or cable car. Consult the official website for directions.

2. Get wild at Singapore Night Safari

If you can keep the little ones awake long enough to experience the Night Safari, then you can add this to your list of unique things to do in Singapore.

A part of the Singapore Zoo’s facility, Night Safari is the world’s first nocturnal zoo, the whole family can witness the secret lives of animals after dark. Lions, elephants, hippos, and giraffes come out to play when the sun goes down.

Watch them interact in a simulated natural environment like they would in the wild. From playtime to feeding time, the Singapore Night Safari allows you to meet over 1,000 different species under the moonlight.

📍 How to get there: you can get to the Singapore Zoo by car or public transport. Consult the official website for directions.

3. Learn something new at ArtScience Museum

Not only is its lotus-shaped exterior impressive, but just wait until you see what’s inside of the ArtScience Museum, a top activity to do with kids in Singapore.

ArtScience Museum has 21 permanent exhibits with a host of rotating temporary displays that keep the line-up fresh and engaging. Art inspired by Van Gogh, Warhol, Dalí, Da Vinci, and Escher is combined with scientific topics like data, physics, palaeontology, marine biology, and cosmology to create a completely unique experience.

Squeeze in some educational fun for all ages with interactive displays, virtual reality, hands-on workshops, and more at discounted prices for children of specific age groups.

📍 How to get there: you can get to the ArtScience Museum by foot, bike, car, or public transport. Consult the official website for directions.

 4. Spend a day in the sun at Siloso Beach

Sun, surf, and sand is a recipe for a perfect outdoor activity with a family – especially in tropical Singapore! Cool down when the weather heats up and keep everybody happy with a day at Siloso Beach.

Little ones can make endless sand castles and dig for buried treasure along the sandy beaches, while older kids can get wet in the surf, spend the day swimming, or participate in an array of water activities, like skim-boarding and kayaking.

And the best part? Entrance is free! But if you want to elevate your beach day, there are beach bars along the coast, and other beach activities available for a small fee.

📍 How to get there: you can get to Siloso Beach by beach shuttle, Sentosa Express, or public transport; car parking is available nearby. Consult the official website for directions.

5. See the city on a Singapore DUCKTour

It’s a boat! It’s a car! It’s a…duck tour? Experience the best of both worlds with one of the top things to do in Singapore – a tour around the city on an amphibious vehicle.

For shorter attention spans of the smallest tourists, this award-winning Singapore DUCKTour is a sightseeing tour that takes you around the city (and the water) in about an hour. Waddle by the Merlion Park, the Civic District, the Singapore Flyer, and the Suntec fountain – the largest fountain in the world.

While older kids will enjoy the entertaining audio commentary featuring fun facts and history about each place, younger ones will love waving at the passerby on the duck-shaped vehicle. Plunge onto Marina Bay for a cruise around the harbor before your boat magically changes back into a land-loving automobile.

📍 How to get there: you can get to the DUCKTour ticket office by car, taxi, or train. Meet at the Suntec Mall near the Singapore Convention and Exhibition Center. Consult the official website for directions.

6. Meet the animals at the Singapore Zoo

Lions, tigers, and bears are only some of the 300 species of mammals, insects, birds, and reptiles you’ll encounter at the Singapore Zoo.

Since 1973, the Singapore Zoo has helped with the conservation of rainforests through preservation and education about this precious resource and the animals that call the zoo home. From the tropical climate of the Amazon to the diverse deserts of Australia, there are 11 zones representing habitats from around the world.

Take the tram throughout the park for an easier family experience, and check out the stroller, wagon, and wheelchair rentals available onsite. Combine your ticket for speciality exhibits throughout the park, like Jurong Bird Park, River Wonders, and Night Safari.

📍 How to get there: You can get to the Singapore Zoo by car or public transport. Consult the official website for directions

Free things to do in Singapore:

7. Explore the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden

Singapore has committed itself to become a family-friendly city in the truest sense, which is why the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden was created.

As part of the Singapore Botanical Garden organization, Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is Asia’s first garden dedicated exclusively to children. Through discovery and experiential learning, the garden hosts a variety of hands-on learning activities to teach them about ecology and protecting the planet.

There’s no end of outdoor things to do at the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden in Singapore – a farm, an orchard, water features, bridges, treehouses, and gardens are available for hours of exploration. And the best part? Admission is free!

📍 How to get there: Located inside the Bukit Timah Core of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, you can get to the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden by car, bus or train from the Botanic Gardens MRT stop (Circle/Downtown line). Car parking is available, but limited.

 8. Fly a kite at Marina Barrage

Located in the heart of the city, Marina Barrage is one of 15 reservoirs in Singapore, bringing nature – and fresh water source – into the city.

Because it’s a dam, the reservoir is unaffected by tides, making it a protected place for safe water sports with children. Kayaking and boating (even dragon boating!) are all options for children of all ages.  Because of its grassy knolls and open space, Marina Barrage is also a great place to kick around a soccer ball or fly a kite on a breezy day, and access to the public spaces is free.

Marina Barrage isn’t the only fun thing to do in Singapore. If you want to make a day of it, guided tours are available for the onsite gallery, or head to the nearby waterpark, snack bar, or shopping mall to spend the day.

📍 How to get there: You can get to Marina Barrage by car or public transport. Get on the Marina Bay or Downtown MRT and then take the 400 bus line. Paid car parking is available. Please consult the official website for directions.

9. Run, jump, and play at Jurong Lake Gardens

With 90 hectares dedicated to open green space within the city (and zero-waste initiatives to boot), Jurong Lake Gardens is a great outdoor activity for families during your trip to Singapore – and admission is free!

For the tiniest tots, the Rumble Forest playground equipment is perfect for kids learning basic motor skills – balancing on wooden logs, slipping down gentle slides, and splashing in shallow pools – all inspired by the animals that call Singapore home. Paved paths throughout the area allow for easy use of strollers.

A swimming pool, a fully-equipped gym, and an offering of exercise classes will get older kids up and moving. Event spaces designed for picnics and family gatherings are a perfect home base as kids of all ages explore Jurong Lake Gardens

📍 How to get there: You can get to the Jurong Lake Gardens by car or public transport. Get to the Lakeside MRT station and use bus lines 49 and 154 from Jurong East or Boon Lay Interchanges. North and South car parks are accessible via Yuan Ching Road.

10. Pose with the dinosaurs at Changi Jurassic Mile

Who says the commute between the airport and your destination can’t be fun? That’s just what Singapore set out to do when the Changi Jurassic Mile was built.

This 3.5 km trail connects Changi Airport to East Coast Park and is open for cycling, jogging, or simply strolling all day, every day, free of charge. However, the main attraction is the permanent display of life-size dinosaurs!

Take a picture with a T-rex, look up to see the craning neck of a brontosaurus, or guess what will hatch from the dozens of dinosaur eggs scattered about the trail.

📍 How to get there: You can get to the Changi Jurassic Mile by car, public transport, by foot, or by bicycle. From the airport, head to Terminal 4 Arrivals and follow the signs. Bicycles are available to rent at the Hub & Spoke pit stop, near the car park.

 11. Get into nature at Admiralty Park

An obstacle course and slides are a good way to keep kids entertained at Admiralty Park in Singapore
Photo by Chris ng on Google Images

Situated on 20 hectares of green open space, Admiralty Park is a green urban oasis for families to spread out or spend time together.

Get some fresh air, run around, or slide down 26 unique slides spread across the park. Three main play areas are specially designed for different age groups – Junior Play, Adventure Play, and Family Terracing Play.  As part of a city-wide initiative, Admiralty Park offers an inclusive playground, designed specifically for children with special needs. Inclusive playgrounds provide the physical structure that supports play between children with and without special needs.

Dozens of paved trails connect throughout the park, making a wander through nature easier for parents with strollers. Explore grasslands, forests, and mangroves and spot butterflies, rare native plants, dragonflies, and even monkeys – just make sure you don’t share your snacks!

📍 How to get there: you can get to Admiralty Park by car, public transport, or on foot. Get off at the Woodlands MRT stop and walk 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can park your car on the west side via Riverside Road, or at the Republic Polytechnic and walk from there.

Adventurous things to do with kids in Singapore:

12. Make a splash at Wild Wild Wet

Find splash pools and slides at Wild Wild Wet, a fun outdoor thing to do with kids in Singapore
Photo by Wild Wild Wet on Tiqets

Get there by bus, metro, or taxi, but whatever you do, get to Wild Wild Wet – a top thing to do in Singapore with kids when you are traveling with children of any age.

Singapore’s most popular water park is the best place to get soaked for the entire day. Swirl down Vortex for extreme twists and turns on Singapore’s first high-speed ride. Or take the plunge on a free-fall water slide with a near-vertical drop –  if you dare.

If thrill rides aren’t your speed, there are plenty of colorful play zones designed for younger children, too – shallow splash pools, gentle slides, and fountains can keep the littlest swimmers happy all day.

📍 How to get there: you can get to Wild Wild Wet by car or public transport. Take the East-West Line and get on at Pasir Ris MRT Station (EW1). From here, head to the Pasir Ris Bus Interchange and take bus lines 3, 5, 6, 12, 17, 21, 89, 354, and 358. Consult the official website for parking rates.

13. Monkey around at Superpark Singapore

Little ones hang from monkey bars and a climbing wall at SuperPark Singapore

Choose your own adventure when you enter SuperPark Singapore where bouncing, climbing, flipping, and all-around energy are the name of the game.

This Singapore theme park is a great idea if you are looking for indoor things to do with kids and encourages different types of movement for all-day engagement.

Use strategy and movement to conquer obstacle courses, execute flips and maneuvers on a ton of trampolines, zoom down a zipline, play an array of games like basketball and pedal-car races, or try your hands (and feet) on the climbing wall.

📍 How to get there: You can get to SuperPark Singapore by car and public transport. For the green, red, and orange lines, take a train to the City Hall (EW13/NS25) or Esplanade (CC3) station and walk through City Link Mall and then Esplanade Exchange. From the blue line, take a train to the Promenade (DT15) station and follow the signage to Suntec City.

14. See the winter wonderland of SnowCity

A family plays bumper tubes on the ice at Snow City in Singapore

Snow in Singapore? Impossible! But not at Snow City Singapore. Experience the great outdoors inside with a simulated winter wonderland using nitrogen and water.

The frigid interior of Snow City Singapore makes the perfect icy conditions for a bunch of winter-related activities – tobogganing, snow tubing, and even ice fishing – with 150 tons of snow to play with.

Pack the perfect snowball, make a snow angel, or take a trip down an icy slide to meet a pile of powder at the bottom. This family-friendly venue offers promotions for discounted children’s tickets, making Snow City accessible for the whole family.

📍 How to get there: You can get to Snow City by car or public transport. Take the train from Jurong East Station on the East West Line and walk, or use bus lines 66, 178, 198, 335. Please consult the official website for parking rates.

 15. Have a blast at NERF Action Xperience

Photo by NERF Action Xperience on Tiqets

With four play zones to choose from, there’s dozens of ways to race, climb, and slide your way through the NERF Action Xperience – even before you pick up your own blaster.

Have fun in this foamy adventure world as you climb the sheer walls of a volcano, and slide down the lava trails to safety.

Or, team up to combat any army of zombies as you race against the clock to victory. Race tracks, ziplines, and rope courses all have an element of the beloved squishy NERF toy for the young (and the young at heart). Have adrenaline-loving little ones? Then you’ll find this one of the ultimate things to do in Singapore with kids.

📍 How to get there: You can get to NERF Action Xperience by car or public transport. Please consult the official website for the nearest bus stop or MRT station.

And there you have it! Equipped with this list of top things to do in Singapore with kids, you can take the hassle out of planning your upcoming trip to Singapore and spend more time making memories. Thinking of taking an adults-only vacation instead? Check out our suggestions for can’t-miss landmarks in Singapore’s capital city and dreamy day trips from Singapore!
